Everyone loves an orphan story and the Foundling Hospital, created by Thomas Coram in 1739 with help from William Hogarth and George Frideric Handel, has inspired many authors and artists. Hetty Feather, Jacqueline Wilson’s delightful fictional resident of the strict London charity, is perhaps the most famous. Well, Hetty has competition now.
